Our entry investigates the current and past histories and architectures of Walsall. It centres around four themes: Traces of industry; low cloud; the English rambler; and the Walsall Art Gallery. It celebrates the iconic brick chimneys and saw-tooth roof warehouses which remain traces of a post-industrial city and reinvents them with social conscience. The proposal offered Walsall a complex of buildings which included a Leisure Centre, Conference Facility, Hotel, Auditorium, undercover play space and landscape landform for roaming on Sunday mornings. We felt our proposal integrated the old with the new. Unfortunately, the judges did not choose our vision for the site.
