Bradmore Road, Oxford
Andrew Dawson and Francesco Miniati
Nestled between two large Victorian villas, the outbuilding is to be refurbished and extended to accommodate a centralised laundrette and recreation room for the college. The existing building will be refurbished to house the laundry facilities while the recreation room will be in the new extension. The new building element is formed as a shadow of the original outbuilding replicating its profile. It is enlarged and then extruded into the rear garden. The existing building is reflected in the new opening at the end of the extension. In replicating elements of the existing building the proposal is not unfamiliar and responds to the sensitivity of the Conservation area.
