Retirement flats for Hare Krishna devotees (2016)

Mando Moreti, Andrew Dawson, Joelle Darby,

Food for Life Vrindavan is an Indian humanitarian organisation working to help the poorest of the poor for the past 25 years. After establishing a number of girls schools they asked OFA to assist with the next stage of development; self-contained accommodation for elderly devotees. Located on the outskirts of Nangla Kiki, just to the north of Vrindavan the centre provides essential human services including a school, hospital, organic farm and workshops. Designed to respond to the local conditions including climate, materials and construction techniques the proposed buildings are deliberately minimal and raw, in doing so they maintain an honesty and simple elegance. Siting of the buildings and internal layouts were required to respond to Vastu principles of design.
