St Giles' Loos

Short Let Accommodation (2019)

St Giles' Loos

232_Visual Planning MkII REVISION 14.2.19

The proposal was for the adaptive reuse of the former Victorian toilets on St Giles, Oxford into short let accommodation. Located in the centre of Oxford, along with an unconventional use, the project was incredibly sensitive and challenging from a planning point of view. In the end the exercise became about Non-architecture and how transparent and non-existent any intervention can be. Frameless, non-reflective glass canopies merge out of the existing openings making them invisible and preserving the revered historic setting. Two short let apartments are located in the divided below ground former toilets.
